A public memorial to honor three military veterans - a solder of the War of 1812 and two soldiers of the Civil War - was held at 11 a.m. May 26 at Jewel Grove Pioneer Cemetery in north Wheaton.

Last year the gravestones of these veterans were restored by the federal government, said Bob Jacobson, chairman of the Milton Township Cemeteries Authority."With this Memorial Day service, we wanted to recognize and honor all those who died in the service of their country," said Bill Kooser, commander of Phillip H. Sheridan Camp No. 2 of the Sons of Union Veterans.

The cemetery is on Champion Forest Court, just south of Jewel Road, across from Sandburg Elementary School in Wheaton. For information, call 630-668-7551 or 630-668-4882. The cemetery is one of three managed by the Milton Township Cemeteries Authority
