Happy 4th of July Milton Township

Highway Commissioner Gary Muehlfelt, Lt. Col. Ed Godfrey, & Supervisor Chris Heidorn
We are honored to have Lt. Col Ed Godfrey as one of our co-grand marshalls for the 2010 Fourth of July Parade.
Lt. Godfrey, a long time resident of Wheaton graduated from Wheaton High School in 1912 as president of the class. He has two children who are both serving active duty. His son Patrick is with us today, and is currently a major in the airforce attending command school.
We all honor Lt. Godfrey today for his many military
accomplishments and especially for volunteering when his
country needed him. Lt. Godfrey received his Wings of Gold
and U.S. Marine 2 nd Lt. Bars in 1944 at the young age of 19.
He was stationed on three aircraft carriers during the Korean War and flew in the Vietnam War. His medals include two Distinguished Flying Crosses, Bronze Star with Combat V., eight air medals, six campaign starts and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. And, beyond that his wife boasts that he doesn’t like to brag – but he also volunteered for duty during Operation Desert Shield/Storm in the gulf.
Thank you Lt. Col Ed Godfrey – you are truly an American hero and represent what our countries independence and our Fourth of July holiday are all about.

Cert Instructors...Nurse Sandee and Medic Rob go to Haiti!
After weeks of planning, packing and tons of red tape, Rob Spejcher,Cert Adam Class, and Sandee Schlickman ,Cert Bravo Class were finally on our way to Port au Prince, Haiti. The destruction was beyond my senses, and I know that sounds dramatic, but it really was. After the first few days, I never thought Haiti would ever recover. They do everything by hand, including taking rock by rock off of the collapsed buildings.
When we got to Camp Dadado, (April 24th), where Rob had worked 10 days after the earthquake, we were met by so many smiling children and adults. How can they smile when they have nothing! Rob spent most of his time doing preventive health, such as setting up showers, improving the clean water, garbage control and tweaking the toilets.
The country of Haiti is on “island time”, nothing moves fast, which was very discouraging for us. If we had been in the US, we could have had all of this done in a day. With only one week to help them, I thought: how will these infants make it? But then again, these are Haitians and they are a strong resilient people. The heat and humidity was unbearable, but the smiles and the hugs from the people made up for any discomfort.

I am not sure about the others, but I would return in a second, if given the chance.
It was a wonderful experience and one that I feel very blessed to have been a part of............................................ Sandee Schlickman
